Abelardo Castillo is one of the most important contemporary Argentine storytellers. Born in 1935 and published his first stories in 1959. Since then he has maintained a prolific literary career that combines stories, novels, plays, e-magazines, and dictation of literary workshops for young writers. Throughout his life he has won several national and international awards and some of his stories, novels and plays have been translated into English, French, Italian, German, Slovak, Russian and Polish. The other gates is a book in which Castillo has entered the story, from the themes that best manages: guilt, punishment, past that mark. Genealogy is part of a narrative that has the background to Poe, Borges, Cortazar, Arlt, while building their own voice through which readers find it easy to get carried away, despite the complexity of his characters. Sexuality, family, friends, all come together in the pages of the other doors. The volume is divided into four sections: Initiates, Thus Spoke, hopscotch and Macabeo. The first section gathers stories have in common the loss of innocence, and a narrative voice that gets the reader to identify with what is being told, showing the ability to work the Castillo viewpoint. The biggest surprise is given in the story "Hernan". The second section includes only one story, which prefigures the coming in hopscotch, stories of madness and crime. Tributes marked Poe and Borges, whom Castillo copying humorless. Finally, "Maccabee", also a single story that closes the volume, deals with guilt and identity. All these stories are technically excellent, but that does not dull the excitement with which they were written and with which they are read. The perfection in prose only provides ease of reading, let go.
